PRESS RELEASE: QATAR 2022 FIFA WORLD CUP- Four Nigerian Journalists Nominated To Be Members of The Qatar Fan Leader Network

The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, the organization responsible for the venues, infrastructure and host country operations for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in partnership with the Qatar Football Association (QFA) has approved the nominations of four Nigerian Journalists and another ardent fan who were recommended by the National Chairman of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club Rev. Samuel Ikpea to be members of the Qatar Fan Leader Network.

The four Nigerian Journalists are Akeem Busari, Joseph Joshua, Darlinghntyn Umoru and Joseph Odoekwu, while Amaka Okediadi an ardent fan and a member of the publicity team of the apex Supporters Club in the country was also nominated to be part of the Qatar Fan Leader Network.The Fan Engagement specialist, Marketing and Communication in charge of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy Mr. Vishnu Murali stated in an email to the nominated Journalists that: “You will not only represent your local football community and home country, but football fans around the world. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to help us shape the biggest sporting event on the planet”. “We see a Fan Leader as someone who is a passionate member of the football community in their own country and wants to show the rest of the world how much they love the game by ensuring the voice of the fan is represented in the sport.Mr. Vishnu further stated during a virtual meeting held on Tuesday December 21, 2021 with the nominated persons that the Qatar Fan Leader Network is not a project of FIFA, but that of Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy in partnership with the Qatar Football Association. “Some individuals in Nigeria are crediting the Qatar Fan Leader Network to FIFA” he stated. “This is not true, as it is a project of the Committee aimed at providing basic answers to fans around the world who wish to know more about Qatar and her plans ahead of the FIFA World Cup which will be hosted for the first time in an Arab nation.“Vital information such as ticketing, accommodation, Fan ID amongst others will be made available to fans through the Qatar Fan Leader Network” he added. “Moreover, a lot of people have a wrong notion about Qatar as a nation and the Fan Network in Doha which will hope to assist with providing answers to fans who wish to be part of the event”. On issue of dress-code during the World Cup, Vishnu stated that fans will not face any restrictions, as they will be free to wear any national attire during their sojourn in Qatar. However, he also stated that fans are not expected to put on very short dresses.
